Medium Weight Coated (MWC)

The step between LWC and full coated art — brighter and bulkier at the same weight, with gloss deliberately held down.

What it is.

MWC is chosen when LWC is not quite enough and coated art is more than the job needs. Against LWC at the same grammage it runs brighter — 91 ±1 % against 84 ±1 — and bulkier at 0.88 to 0.91 cm³/g. So a job gains opacity and thickness without moving up a weight class, which keeps the postage where it was.

Gloss is lower than LWC by design, at 26 % and up. That is not a compromise; it is the point. Work where text legibility matters as much as image reproduction — catalogues with long descriptions, technical brochures — reads better on a lower-gloss surface.

Caliper runs 53 to 73 µm across basis weights of 60 to 80 g/m².

Typical applications

  • Catalogues with heavy text content
  • Inserts and brochures
  • Publication work needing higher brightness than LWC
