1/S and 2/S Coated Art Paper
Two products sharing one name — C1S coats one side, C2S coats both, and which you need is decided by what happens to the uncoated face.
What it is.
The distinction is not a quality tier, it is a construction. C1S is coated on one side only; the reverse is left uncoated so it can take glue, or writing, or a wax. That is what labels, wraps and carton facings need. C2S is coated on both sides for work that prints on both — brochures, covers, catalogue bodies.
Ordering the wrong one is a common and expensive mistake. A label converter who receives C2S finds the adhesive will not key to the back; a brochure printed on C1S has one good side and one that scuffs.
Both are produced in gloss and matt. Grammage, finish and reel width are set against your press and the end use — the same grade behaves differently on a sheetfed press and on a heatset web.
