Tape Paper
Tape base — a coating substrate, so it is specified by how it behaves under the adhesive line rather than by how it looks.
What it is.
Tape base has three jobs. Air permeability has to be low so the adhesive stays on the surface instead of soaking into the sheet. Elongation and ductility have to be high enough that the finished tape conforms around a corner without lifting. And it has to survive curing heat and, for masking work, the heat of whatever is being painted or baked next to it.
The range spans roughly 30 to 80 g/m². Light washi and masking constructions sit at the bottom — a 42 g/m² washi base runs around 0.69 g/cm³ tightness, 61 µm thickness and 2.8 kN/m MD tensile. High-strength packaging tape base sits at 70 to 80 g/m², reaching 4.2 to 4.8 kN/m MD tensile with a burst index of 3.2 to 3.5 kPa·m²/g.
