What it is.
A supercapacitor separator has two requirements that pull against each other. It has to be a reliable physical barrier between electrodes, which argues for thickness and a closed structure. And it has to offer as little resistance as possible to ion transport, which argues for the opposite.
Where the balance sits is set by thickness, porosity and purity together — and purity matters more here than in almost any other paper, because ionic contamination shows up directly as leakage current and shortened cell life.
