Stainless Steel Interleaving Paper

Interleaving between polished stainless sheet and coil — specified for what it leaves behind, which should be nothing.

What it is.

Interleaving paper protects a polished stainless surface while it is stacked, coiled and shipped. The paper never has to look good; it has to be chemically inert against the steel and mechanically clean enough not to mark it. So the specification is dominated by negatives: low ionic extractables, neutral pH, no dirt specks that will emboss into a mirror finish under stack pressure.

Temperature resistance matters where the sheet is interleaved before a heat process. And the paper still has to run — it is unwound and laid at line speed, so tensile and burst are specified across the grammage range so a light sheet does not snap on the layer table.

The range runs 23 to 45 g/m², with tensile rising from 1.4 kN/m MD at the lightest weight to 3.0 kN/m at the heaviest, and burst from 50 to 100 kPa.
