Electrical insulation paper — specified by dielectric behaviour and by whether it survives winding, impregnation and heat.
What it is.
Insulating paper is bought against an insulation class, not against a grammage. The dielectric strength has to hold for the life of the equipment, which means it has to survive the processing route first: the tension of a winding machine, the solvent and heat of an impregnation stage, and then decades at operating temperature.
Electrical properties only hold if the sheet is clean. Ash and conductive contamination are controlled alongside the mechanical figures, because a conductive particle in an insulating sheet is a fault waiting for the first voltage transient.
Grade, grammage and reel width are set against the equipment and the insulation class. Technical data and batch test reports are issued with each shipment.
