Filtration media specified wet — the dry figures are not the working figures.
What it is.
A filter sheet spends its working life saturated, so wet tensile strength is the number that matters and it is specified alongside the dry figure rather than instead of it. A medium that is strong dry and weak wet will pass a lab test and fail in a housing.
Filtration rate comes from porosity and air permeability, which are traded against retention: a more open sheet flows faster and holds back less. Where that balance sits is a function of the application, not of the paper, which is why filter media is specified against the housing and the fluid rather than bought off a grade name.
A typical light construction runs around 12.5 g/m² at roughly 40 µm, with porosity near 247 µm and air permeability near 1 677 L/m²·s. Testing follows ISO methods throughout.
