Wax-barrier paper — moisture, water and grease resistance by the oldest method in food packaging, and still the cheapest for some jobs.
What it is.
Wax gives a barrier against moisture, water and grease penetration in one pass, and it is inert, cheap and well understood. For biscuits, burgers and chicken it still does the job that more complicated constructions were invented to do.
The limits are worth knowing before you specify it. Wax softens with heat, so it is not the grade for anything that goes into an oven, and waxed paper complicates a paper recycling stream. Where either of those matters, look at the water-based or greaseproof grades instead.
