Food Grade FBB
Single-side coated folding boxboard for direct food contact — specified by what is left out of it as much as by what is in it.
What it is.
Food-grade FBB is separated from ordinary ivory board by two things. First, composition: no optical brightening agents, and specified against GB 11680, the Chinese food-contact paper hygiene standard. Second, converting behaviour, because a food carton is creased, die-cut and folded at speed and a board that cracks at the crease fails on the line, not in the lab.
The coating is built in layers — top coat, under-top, intermediate, pre-coat, filler and back — and that structure is what gives clean folding and scoring without the coating breaking along the crease.
It is bought for cartons that hold food directly rather than through an inner bag: confectionery, dry food, frozen and chilled cartons. Tell us the carton, the print process and whether the pack goes into a freezer or a microwave, because both change what the board has to survive.
