PE-coatable cup base board bought on stiffness per gram — 135 to 320 g/m², at 1.5 or 1.8 bulk.
What it is.
A paper cup fails in one of two ways: the wall goes soft, or the seam leaks. Cup stock is specified against the first. What holds the wall up is not weight but thickness, and bulk is the ratio between the two — the same 250 g/m² board at 1.8 bulk is measurably thicker, and therefore stiffer, than at 1.5. So a converter can hold cup performance and take fibre out, which is where the saving is.
The range runs from about 135 g/m² for lightweight cold-drink cups up to 320 g/m² for large hot cups and lidded containers, with caliper tracking from roughly 202 µm to 450 µm. Both bulk levels are produced; which one suits you usually comes down to whether your forming line is set on board thickness or on basis weight.
The board is supplied uncoated for extrusion. Tell us the coating weight and whether you are running single or double-side PE, because the base has to be matched to the extruder and to whether the cup is going to be lidded and sealed.
